Odd shots - Flowers by the creek

Back in January, I stopped to take a few shots of frozen Owens Creek and found this vase of flowers tied to a tree. Probably put there as a memorial, but odd in that the flowers seemed to be doing fine out in the cold.

Family resemblance

Two of our grandsons (more on My World on Tuesday) stopped by for a one night visit this week. Is there a family resemblance or what? One the left is a photo Dad took when I was about two. On the right is Lewis who will be two this summer.

Reflections - Patrick's window

The windows of Patrick's Irish Pub are always good for reflections and on a sunny afternoon the buildings across the street really shine.

Odd shots - Ice needle

After our January sleet and snow storm, I found this ice needle hanging from the gutter. Do you think you could make some cool clothes with it?

Reflections - Bright flashes

I got some interesting reflections from my flash when I took some shots of Marianne's Valentine roses.

Odd shots - Landscaping with snow?

Landscaping by Lawn perfect; snow by Mother Nature. The sign has been here for years, but it seems ODD stuck in the snow. (The lawn will be very nice once Spring returns!)

Happy Valentine Day

would not be as sweet as my valentine.

Reflections - in Carroll Creek

On February 5, a cloudy day with a gentle breeze, Carroll Creek looked like wavy glass.

Patterns - Red, white & black ice

This starts another theme that I will post from time to time. On the first day of February we had a little freezing rain and sleet. The coating made for an interesting pattern, so I took some shots of the ice patterns on our van.

Odd Shot - Where's the photographer?

Katney is resurrecting her "Odd Shots" meme on her Katney's Kaboodle blog. I plan to add an odd shot from time to time. Last September as I was walking along Carroll Creek in Frederick. One was setting up the camera, but when I looked back, this was the image I captured.

PhotoShop - levels

Usually I have my camera set to automatic, no flash. On the night before we went to the Frederick Fair last September I took some shots of the moon in manual mode and forgot to reset. At the fair the sun was extremely bright, making checking images on the display impossible until we went inside one of the buildings. The result was some highly over-exposed images, like the one above. It was then that I saw something was wrong and reset my camera. Back home, I tried several enhancements in PhotoShop Elements to improve the image quality. Adjusting the levels resulted in the image below which I like.

I also took another shot when we completed our circuit of the fair grounds. This one has only been resized, so you can see the Nikon does a great job of exposure if left on its own.
