Day 23 - Remembering those who sacrificed

Gettysburg and Arlington Cemeteries have always been places of awe and reverence to me. On this clear, crisp, cold (Marianne had different words for the weather) day we drove to Gettysburg so that she could get a photograph for her Martin Luther King related post. A sense of awe swept over me as we drove into the park and is stronger when we walked into the cemetery. I have been here many times, but this was my first winter visit.

Well, unless Marianne was sitting on a battery-operated heating pad, I could see why she'd object to the weather. She's bundled up more than the Michelin man!

I've always wanted to go to Gettysburg. I've heard the effect on a person is deeply profound.

If you do get to spend more than a couple of days in the Washington area, it's worth the trip to Gettysburg, about 90 minutes away. I also recommend Arlington National Cemetery which is right across the river from the Lincoln Memorial.

Marianne will love the idea of the heating pad. She just doesn't "do" cold anymore!
