Then and Now - Old train station

January 21, 2008

This is the old train station in the City of Frederick. On January 21 last year it was clear and cold and the building stood alone at the end of a parking lot. Now it is hot and hazy and the building is almost hidden in the construction of a parking garage and condominiums.

Dragonfly?

Early Wednesday morning I found this little creature staring at me through the dining room window. My guess is that it is a recently emerged dragonfly. The body is about an inch long and the tail at least 2 inches. It was still clinging to the window in the breeze in the afternoon.

Then and Now - Farmer's field

Two views from our dining room window of the field behind our house. Most years winter wheat has been planted in the field, but last fall the corn stalks were left after the harvest. Soy beans were planted in late spring and now we enjoy a green view again.

Bubbling rock and stone perch

I bought the granite blocks for the border to our rose bed at Irwin Stone in Frederick. They have an attractive display of their products near the entrance to the office. Here are two examples. (I posted pics of the bird last May.)

First butterfly

While I was working on the walkway, this butterfly fluttered down nearby. It must have recently emerged from its cocoon, as it was not flying well and just stretched its wings for several minutes before flying off. I was standing about a foot away when I took this images.

Meet the new member of the family

Lewis joined our family earlier this month and this was our introduction. He napped through our introduction and initial photo op.
