While I was working on the walkway, this butterfly fluttered down nearby. It must have recently emerged from its cocoon, as it was not flying well and just stretched its wings for several minutes before flying off. I was standing about a foot away when I took this images.

I began this blog in 2008 after I retired. My main interest is photography and so most posts will contain photos, along with brief comments or explanations. I participate in several weekly blogs and occasionally post my own recurring themes. Occasionally I throw in comments, kudos or complaints about the world situation. I am retired, married to a smart, talented lady who once thought we computer people were geeks and now is one of us geeks. I have a long time interest in photography. We live in Maryland, about 50 miles from Washington, DC.
My main camera is a Nikon D3100 with two zoom lenses (18-55 and 55-200).

Great captures Lew, come visit and see my butterflies.
The butterflies are beautiful.Nice images you got.
What a lucky find! I would LOVE to see a newly emerged butterfly so it would stay still long enough to get a picture. This one is a gem!
