Reflections - Sweet Memories

Sweet Memories is a candy store in downtown Frederick. Looking up we get a nice reflection of the sky and tops of buildings. Then pointng the camera level, the passing cars and buildings across the street appear.

Autos - First Saturday Vintage air cooled

Here are some of the vintage German air-cooled autos on display during the First Saturday celebration in Frederick. Above is a 1970 model. The VW below is truly "bug-eyed".

Weekend Reflections - Gettysburg Museum

This display at the Gettysburg Museum reflects my grandsons learning a little history about their state flag. The moon and Palmetto tree on a blue field was adopted by South Carolina in 1860 after seceding from the United States. The crescent moon on a blue field dates to the revolutionary period when it was used as a banner for the South Carolina militia. The state tree, the Palmetto, was added in creating a flag for the independent South Carolina. The flag became the state flag when South Carolina rejoined the Union.

Reflections - More from the lake

The water was not as smooth on Tuesday as last week, but still some nice reflections. The kayak is for use by the lifeguards. This is the first sailboat I have seen on he lake.

Verified words? - 13-th edition

It has been a while since the last edition and blogger just keeps on creating new words. Occasionally, some real words (sizes, whine, tests) appear as I comment on your blogs, but here are three more "word verifications" that required definitions. Below are my definitions along with the suggestions of dictionary.com and wikipedia. First edition was posted as Round 1. Today's words:

suripli
dictionary.com - NOT a word, suggested "Sarapul" (city in SW Russia).
wikipedia - NOT a word, suggested "surili" (old world monkey).
Lew's definition: sur-ip-li - sneaky spelling.

moloophe
dictionary.com - NOT a word, suggested "Molopo" (river in South Africa).
wikipedia - NOT a word, suggested "Mhlophe" (S. African freedom fighter).
Lew's definition: mo-loophe - very, very aloof.

dephidon
dictionary.com - NOT a word, suggested "devoiding".
wikipedia - NOT a word, suggested "Depardon" (French photographer).
Lew's definition: de-phi-don - a dangerous thing to do, if Don's last name is Corleone.

Bridges - Bennies Hil Road revisited

My last post of Bennies Hill Road Bridge showed the frame of this historic bridge being lifted back on its rebuilt abutments. The county then completely replaced the wooden decking and reopened the bridge last summer. I rode across the bridge in June on one of my trips to buy flowers for our yard.
